Services
There are a lot of providers in the Lowcountry. You might be wondering what makes my office different from all the other options out there. You will hear me describe my style as if a massage therapist and a physical therapist had a baby. How is this possible? I have been honored with mentorship opportunities with professionals who are top in their fields. This means I look at the body in the same way as acupuncturists, physical therapists, and chiropractors look at the body. I apply the same thought process to your massage session and layer additional support and homework to extend the benefits beyond the treatment table.
With 24 years of experience and continued education courses, sessions are customized each time you arrive. No more guessing what kind of massage you want from a spa menu marked at different price points. You can expect high quality care with a combination of techniques focused on your needs each visit.
The following list is an example of some of the tools that I apply when we are working together. It is not meant to be a full explanation but an example of how our work together can bring balance and alignment during each visit.
Whether we work exclusively or I am part of your wellness team, I have the language to communicate across modalities and create the necessary treatment plan to maximize our time together. Please reach out if you have any followup questions. ~ Danica

TuiNa
Nicknamed Eastern Clinical by my teachers o 2002, TuiNa addresses the same symptoms and imbalances that a deep tissue or sport massage session address. It is traditionally performed without oil, but I have found that people prefer to have that deep tissue feeling. I have integrated the Chinese meridians and fascia release methodology to my standard massage sessions.

Massage Cupping
Massage cupping allows me to address dense and compressed tissue more affectively by decompressing the tissue with a vacuum, silicone, or magnetic cup. Cupping can quickly release an area that has been congested/tight/stagnant and allow me to create bigger shifts in a shorter amount of time. This is NOT the same thing as the fire cupping marks found on professional athletes and performed by acupuncturists. The vacuum machine allows me to control the intensity and we work in a range where the client stays relaxed on the table. This methodology follows the same theory as my TuiNa teachers. The goal is to apply as much technique as possible without the client resisting, in order to create change faster and have it last longer between sessions.

Somatic Psoas Practitioner
I have been titled the most trained person on the psoas muscle by local professionals. The psoas is the only muscular tissue that directly attaches the spine to the leg, and it is where the adrenals sit. When we are in danger, the adrenals sends hormones to the psoas to literally move our legs and run away from danger. The issue is that we are in a constant state of fight or flight. Combine that with the long hours of sitting and the psoas is shortened and tight. This pulls on our low back and causes low back pain. Many providers will manually release the psoas for you, but the results rarely last. The psoas is usually the messenger and will not return to balance until the root cause is addressed. I have found clients have improved their chronic low back pain when combining bodywork and specific psoas homework designed to nourish and release the guarding over time.

TMJ/Jaw Techniques
When TMJ disfunction is a result of muscle and fascia tension in the jaw, manual release can help return the movement to balance. This is often done with a combination of work inside and outside the mouth, and complimented with facial cupping to decompress the tissue.
Clients with chronic migraines have also found this work beneficial when tension in the jaw and upper neck contribute to reduce flow of the cerebral spinal fluid. As we work to create space in these areas, the flow of fluid into and out of the head becomes more efficient which can reduce the pressure inside the head.
Clients with sinus pressure and congestion, inlcuding pregnant or postpartum clients who cannot take standard medication, appreciate this work as it assists to drain the sinus cavity and reduces the symptoms of allergies and the common cold.

Movement Trainings
I do not teach group classes anymore, but that does not mean that knowledge has gone by the wayside. Homework suggestions are carefully curated based on years of movement trainings that can include yoga, pilates, melt method, and using both at home equipment and gym equipment. Together we can transition your therapeutic session into self care with a personalized homework plan.
